Care at home doesn’t have to be daunting. Here’s a quick and easy guide to help you get going.

Get assessed

To access government funding for your home care services, you’ll need to arrange an assessment with My Aged Care. Find out more about the assessment here.*
* If you’re self-funded, you can go straight to step 3.

Get approved

Depending on your needs, you could be funded with:

  1. Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP): Entry-level support with a prescribed set of services. Find out more about CHSP here.
  2. Home Care Package (HCP): More complex support with your choice of services. Found out more about HCP here

If successful in your assessment for a Home Care Package, you will receive a letter of approval. This letter will include the services you are eligible to receive, a copy of your support plan and anticipated timing for the home care package being allocated.

Now is a good time to start researching providers as the timing for your home care package allocation is approximately three months away.

Get your package

When you are assigned a Home Care Package, you will receive a letter with the words ‘you’ve been assigned a home care package’. This letter includes your referral code which is your unique reference number for receiving services. You need to provide this number to your chosen provider.

You have 56 days from the date of your letter to enter into a home care agreement with your chosen provider.
