Weekend Entrepreneurs launch succulent sale in Manning

Posted on Thursday, August 20, 2020

A group of 16 Brightwater Care Group clients will officially launch their own mini market selling potted succulents, this weekend.

“The Weekend Entrepreneurs” are a made up of clients from Brightwater’s supported independent living homes for people with a disability in Cannington, Manning and Bentley.

Over the last few months the budding entrepreneurs have been volunteering on weekends to pot and decorate succulents for sale.

The project is the brain child of a Brightwater employee, who introduced the project in March of this year. It is supported by a small cash contribution from Brightwater.

Brightwater CEO, Jennifer Lawrence, said it had been an inventive way to keep clients engaged in weekend activities - especially during COVID-19.

“It has been wonderful to see clients really immerse themselves in this activity, helping them in feeling a sense of accomplishment and confidence,” she said.

“The aim was to sell the creations at the local markets, but with many markets stopped due to COVID-19, our clients and staff came up with their own way to make their business model work and everyone is really excited about the weekend launch.”

Any money raised from the sale of the succulents will be put back into the project, enabling “The Weekend Entrepreneurs” to purchase more supplies and create more products.

Prices range from $15 - $65 and can be purchased on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August from 1030am – 130pm outside of Brightwater Manning at 15 Cornish Crescent in Manning.
