Dale Alcock checks out new Brightwater build

Dale Alcock was a very hands-on visitor during an inspection at Brightwater Care Group’s new Huntington's village last week.

Dale Alcock Projects is Brightwater's construction partner for this unique and ground-breaking new facility. Dale was joined on the site inspection by Brightwater Board Chair Joanne Farrell, Chief Executive Officer Dr Catherine Stoddart and General Manager Disability Janet Wagland.

He took a keen interest in the progress of the seven homes which are being built in the growing community of Piara Waters.

Mr Alcock said he was happy with the pace of construction, with cabinetry installation and tiling underway. External landscaping began last week and the team are targeting completion in March 2024.

“We are extremely proud to be chosen by Brightwater as their partner to deliver this world-class facility. These purpose-built homes will set the benchmark in providing specialised accommodation for people with Huntington’s disease and their families,” Dale said.

“The project has a number of unique design features with the curved elements throughout being a real highlight.”

Huntington’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting areas in the brain which control movement, thinking and emotion. It has a slow progression and symptoms gradually worsen over time.

The impact on a family of even one person with Huntington’s is significant and, because it is usually inherited, an affected parent has a 50 per cent chance of passing it on to children.

For this reason, the Huntington’s village will not only be about the people directly cared for, but also their immediate and extended families.

“An essential aim is that we build an environment that minimises the impact of the disease on the individual, while maximising their potential to live the life they choose in close collaboration with their families,” Catherine said.

Each of the seven homes will have specialist assistive equipment and leading-edge technology. The property will also feature a sensory garden with zones for outdoor living and socialising.
