Brightwater residents embark on a journey to Sculpture by the Sea in Cottesloe

In a delightful fusion of art, community, and care, Brightwater residents have recently had the pleasure of experiencing one of Western Australia's most iconic cultural events, Sculpture by the Sea, held at the picturesque Cottesloe Beach.

This outing was made possible through Brightwater's Life's Possibilities program, underscoring a commitment to enriching the lives of its residents through diverse and engaging experiences.

Sculpture by the Sea is an annual exhibition that transforms the coastal landscape into an open-air gallery, showcasing the work of Australian and international artists. The event is renowned for its breathtaking backdrop of the Indian Ocean, offering a stunning platform for artists to exhibit their sculptures and installations, drawing visitors from all over to marvel at the intersection of art and nature.

A tour of this year's sculptures

More than 70 residents from all Brightwater aged care sites embarked on this cultural outing, illustrating Brightwater's holistic approach to care that encompasses not just the physical, but also the mental and emotional wellbeing of its residents.

The excursions were organised as part of Sculpture by the Sea's Aged Care, Youth and Communities Program, with invaluable support from Lotterywest.

The day was not only about viewing art - it was also an opportunity for social engagement and enjoyment of the beach. Residents had the choice of indulging in a classic fish and chips lunch or enjoying a morning tea, over good conversation with our tour guides.

Resident art projects

But the journey into the world of art does not end with the visit to Cottesloe Beach. In a thoughtful follow-up to the excursion, Brightwater residents will soon enjoy an art incursion at their respective sites.

An artist from Sculptures by the Sea will visit to lead a sculpture workshop, offering residents the opportunity to delve into their creative sides. These sessions are designed to be more than just art classes - they are also a gateway to self-expression, storytelling, and therapeutic engagement. Participants will work on various art projects, including pieces intended for a sensory garden, further enhancing the communal spaces with personal touches and shared memories.

The Life’s Possibilities Program

Brightwater is immensely thankful to everyone who has contributed significantly to the success of the Life’s Possibilities program. Their commitment and hard work have breathed life into this initiative, making it possible for our residents to experience new things.

To date, the program has turned over 100 dreams into reality. The challenges associated with ageing, Huntington's disease, neurological conditions, disabilities, or acquired brain injuries can often make it difficult for many of our clients to relish the simple joys of life.

The Life’s Possibilities program is designed to overcome these barriers, fostering social interaction and overall wellbeing for our aged care and disability clients by providing opportunities for outings, in-house events, and the introduction of new programs and experiences.

We invite everyone to contribute to this meaningful program, whether through financial support, donating experiences, or volunteering your time. Employee volunteers are especially welcomed to offer their companionship and assistance, ensuring clients can fully engage in and enjoy these experiences.
