For many years, small groups of residents from Onslow Gardens would make the trip to the Perth Royal Show, enjoying the sights, sounds and atmosphere of one of Western Australia's most iconic events.
But while the outings were always popular, one question kept coming up.
What if everyone could experience the Royal Show?
That simple idea sparked what has now become a much-loved tradition at Onslow Gardens.
Rather than taking a handful of residents to the show, the team decided to bring the show to them.
A show to remember
The annual celebration includes all the things residents love most about Royal Show season.
Cake decorating competitions put residents' creativity to the test, while flower arranging entries bring a splash of colour and friendly competition to the home.
What's even more special is that each year, an animal farm visits Onslow Gardens, giving residents the opportunity to get up close with a range of friendly animals without ever leaving home.
Whether it's patting a goat, feeding a sheep or simply watching the animals interact, the visits never fail to bring smiles.
Bringing people together
While the animals and competitions are always a highlight, it's the sense of community that makes the day so special.
Residents come together to share stories, cheer one another on and enjoy the atmosphere that comes with a community event.
This year's celebration was made even more memorable for residents Linda and Mohsen, who celebrated their birthdays during the animal farm visit.
Surrounded by friends, laughter and a few furry guests, it was a birthday celebration to remember.
A tradition worth continuing
What began as a way to make the Royal Show accessible to more residents has grown into one of Onslow Gardens' favourite annual events.
By bringing the show to residents, the team has created an experience that combines creativity, connection and a little bit of country charm.
And judging by the smiles, it's a tradition that will continue for years to come.
