Rediscovering a love of art

Maureen For Life's Possibilities

Some places have a way of making you feel like yourself again. For Maureen, it is an art gallery.

Before her stroke, Brightwater Inglewood resident Maureen lived an independent and social life. She loved visiting galleries and museums, attending art and craft groups and making a day of it with a leisurely wander through the gift shop before lunch in the city.

When Maureen recently joined a Brightwater outing to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, those memories came flooding back. She loved the experience but wished she had more time to explore.

Thanks to Life's Possibilities, she was able to return.

Maureen spent the day exploring the Art Gallery of WA and the WA Museum, taking her time with the exhibitions before enjoying lunch in Perth's Cultural Centre.

Like turning the pages of a favourite book, each gallery offered another story. Some exhibitions were new discoveries, while others brought back memories of the many visits she'd enjoyed over the years.

Before heading home, Maureen made one last stop at Myer where she picked out a pair of earrings to remember the day. It may have been a small purchase, but it now carries a much bigger story.

For Maureen, it was a beautiful day spent rediscovering a place she'd always loved and enjoying a day that felt wonderfully familiar.

Sometimes, the places we know best have a way of helping us rediscover a little piece of ourselves.
