Reflexology is a complementary therapy that is becoming increasingly popular with our home care clients, for good reason.
It is based on the theory that there are areas on your hands and feet that correspond to organs and systems of the body.
Our Reflexologist, Daniel Hribar, has been helping clients enjoy the benefits of reflexology since 2010, and joined Brightwater’s home care team this year.
“Reflexology gives people another avenue of health improvement, by enhancing the body’s healing mechanisms – so it is a real way that people can heal,” Daniel said.
The therapy involves applying firm pressures to the hands and/or feet, using both precise and sweeping movements and particular techniques to encourage your body to heal, detox and destress.
“Treatments typically are enjoyable, relatively pain free, and enjoyed in your own home while you’re sitting back and relaxing.
“The appointment lasts an hour and begins with a nice warm foot spa and then application of good quality moisturising cream for the reflexology treatment,” he said.
Treating the particular reflex can help stimulate the associated organ or system if it is underactive, or relax it if it is overactive. In this way, reflexology can help return the body to the state of balance.
“As we get older, reflexology is particularly beneficial as it deals with the lymphatic system – which is the network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials.
“For the lymphatics, skeletal movement is the primary pump. As we age, we tend to be less mobile and physical than in the prime of our lives. So reflexology can supplement movement and directly aid the lymphatics.”
“Also as we age, we tend to accumulate injuries and experience wear and tear. Reflexology can target the musculoskeletal system and help with muscle aches and pains, encouraging healing that otherwise the body may not receive.
Phyllis “Phyll” Ferridge, has been receiving reflexology from Brightwater for 6 months, and has found it has made a big difference to her life.
“I was having a really bad time. My lungs aren’t the best, but with reflexology I have been breathing better,” Phyll said.
“I had pain in my sciatic nerve for about 50 years because I had a really nasty fall years ago. And that’s good now, the pain has gone.”
It’s not only the reflexology Phyll enjoys, but also the warm, caring nature of Reflexologist Daniel.
“Daniel is brilliant, he has become like my best friend, we just hit it off so well. We talk about different things while he’s working on me. I just can’t praise him enough.”
“Reflexology just makes me feel so much better. I have mitochondrial disease, a disease that reduces the ability of the mitochondria cells to produce energy, and reflexology even energises me, it’s just wonderful.”
Daniel works with many clients like Phyll, and loves what he does.
“I feel really excited and fortunate to be able to provide such a fantastic complimentary and holistic health therapy to individuals in need,” Daniel said.
At Brightwater, our home care team includes a range of health professionals like Daniel, who can come and assist you in your own home too.
