Fishing, culture and getting back to what matters

Before his stroke, fishing was a big part of Lance’s life.

He loved being out by the water, rod in hand, enjoying the peace and quiet while waiting for a bite. For Lance, fishing has always been tied to culture, time outdoors and a sense of calm that’s hard to find anywhere else.

After his stroke, Lance spent time in rehabilitation relearning many of the everyday things we often take for granted. With recovery taking centre stage, getting back to fishing wasn’t easy, and without the right equipment, something that had once been second nature began to feel out of reach.

With support from Life’s Possibilities, Lance has been able to get his hands on fishing gear to head back out again and reconnect with the activity he enjoys so much.

Moments like this remind us that recovery and wellbeing often come from returning to the things we love, like something as simple as holding a fishing rod after a long time.

And for Lance, that’s exactly where things start to feel right again, by the water, casting a line.
