The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is an evolving worldwide situation and presents a challenge for all involved in providing care. Brightwater Care Group takes the health and welfare of its clients very seriously and we are well prepared and monitoring the situation carefully.
Right now, the greatest risk of people getting COVID-19 are people who have travelled internationally (please see the Department of Health website for the latest list of countries) or those who have been in close contact with someone who is a confirmed case of COVID-19.
As such we are asking staff, family members, volunteers, contractors and other visitors to our sites to please follow the guidelines as outlined by the Department of Health. These require that people who have visited these areas do not visit residential aged care facilities.
We are also proactively planning. We have a pandemic plan which is designed to ensure continuity of services to our clients in the event of an outbreak. We have a designated Clinical Lead and an internal response team who will manage any outbreak and are charged with keeping a close eye on the evolving situation.
However, infection prevention is not new to our industry. We have strong infection control principles in place and our day to day procedures emphasise hand and respiratory hygiene. Our staff are very familiar with these principles and are practicing these as per our normal high standard of care.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and are providing our staff, clients and their families with regular updates.
