Kaveen Goundar, Resource Coordinator with Brightwater Oats Street, has nominated Brightwater for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Volunteer Employer Recognition Awards (VERA), to acknowledge the role Brightwater has played in supporting him in his volunteering role.
The award ceremony will officially take place on Friday 5th November and Kaveen said it was an honour to be able to put Brightwater forward for the awards, given the enormous support they have given him as an emergency services volunteer.
Kaveen has volunteered with DFES for almost two years and says the team at Oats Street has been very supportive.
“I volunteer all year round, but I am often called out in bushfire season at a moment's notice,” Kaveeen said.
“Earlier this year I got a call on a Friday night from DFES to go and help with communications support in the North-West following Cyclone Seroja and by Monday morning I was on a plane with the ok from Sally (my Manager).”
“I know it is a big ask to just drop my commitments here and go, which is why I nominated Brightwater for these awards.”
Kaveen said he loved volunteering his time with DFES.
“We only have a certain amount of time to give and it has always be important to me to use my time wisely.
“It is why I work here at Oats Street – I know my work is meaningful. Likewise, I know my spare time is also put to good use by volunteering with DFES.”
