Brightwater acquisition to deliver 39 new aged care places in Attadale

Leading aged care and disability support provider Brightwater Care Group has acquired Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital from Ramsay Health Care, securing a critical healthcare asset that will be transformed to provide 39 new aged care places.

The acquisition comes as Western Australia faces mounting demand for aged care, with approximately 2,700 additional places expected to be required by 2030.

Located on Hislop Road in the City of Melville, the property is one of Brightwater’s largest acquisitions to date and expands the not-for-profit provider’s footprint south of the Swan River.

Brightwater CEO Dr Catherine Stoddart said the acquisition would help address a critical shortage of aged care places while ensuring an important community healthcare asset was retained.

“Western Australia’s aged care system is under increasing pressure, and we urgently need to bring more high-quality care places online,” Dr Stoddart said.

“This acquisition gives Brightwater an opportunity to respond directly to that challenge by delivering 39 new aged care places in a high-demand metropolitan area.

“Every additional place matters. Increasing aged care capacity not only gives older West Australians and their families more options but also helps ease pressure across the broader hospital and healthcare system.”

Brightwater will undertake improvement and refurbishment works this year, with the facility expected to welcome its first aged care clients in the first quarter of 2027.

The existing hospital will be repurposed to support people aged 65 and older who require residential, transitional or other forms of care.

Dr Stoddart said Brightwater would move quickly to prepare the facility for its new purpose, including investing capital to equip the hospital for both health and aged care.

“We will invest immediately in a comprehensive program of improvements to ensure the facility is well equipped to provide high-quality residential and transitional aged care,” she said.

“Our priority is to complete the refurbishment and bring these much-needed places into the community as quickly as possible.

“We look forward to revitalising this important facility and welcoming residents from Attadale and surrounding suburbs in early 2027.”

The acquisition expands Brightwater’s metropolitan network into a new area and supports the organisation’s commitment to delivering quality, qualified care for older West Australians.
