Millen Primary School joins the Brightwater Buddies Schools Connect Program

Millen Primary School in East Victoria Park have partnered with Brightwater Care group, to join the Brightwater Buddies Schools Connect Program.

The Brightwater Buddies Schools Connect Program aims to involve Primary and High School students in community participation activities with Brightwater’s clients in residential aged and disability care. Activities include donation drives, visits to local Brightwater homes to provide company to clients or simply writing letters and sending artwork to our clients.

Students, families and staff at the school have most recently shown their support by running a donation drive to collect toiletries and other goods for Brightwater’s Homeward Bound Appeal to support people at Brightwater’s Oats Street and Marangaroo homes, where the focus is on rehabilitation and transitioning clients back to their home or to a supported environment.

Brightwater CEO Jennifer Lawrence said it is important for children in our local community to get involved in meaningful initiatives like the Brightwater Buddies Schools Connect Program.

“I am thrilled to see our younger generation taking part in program, which not only teaches them about community participation and how they can support those around them, but benefits our clients too.”

Millen Primary School Students, Brook McKeon in Year 6, and Grace Young in Year 4 were the first students to donate to the appeal, contributing items such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner. Brooke and Grace proudly presented the donations on behalf of the Millen Primary School community to the Brightwater fundraising team.

“We are so grateful for the donations from Millen Primary School. Our Homeward Bound Program is so important because it provides a level of comfort to our clients by gifting them a Homeward Bound starter pack as they transition back into the community and independent living. The pack also includes home essentials like white goods, kitchen equipment, toiletries and linen,” Ms Lawrence said.
