When Joe was asked if he would like to lead a Jeopardy-themed activity at Brightwater Redcliffe, he did not need long to think about it.
"Yeah, I'll do that, it’s a good challenge," he said.
What started as a simple idea quickly became an opportunity for Joe to share his skills and create something enjoyable for his fellow residents.
Taking his new role seriously, Joe got to work researching questions on his iPad and preparing content for the quiz. He embraced the challenge from the outset, from planning the categories to getting everything ready for game day.
When the time came to step into the role of quizmaster, all that preparation paid off.
"It went great," Joe said.
"They liked it!"
As questions flashed up on the screen, residents jumped in with answers. Before long, the room was buzzing with conversation, laughter and good-natured debate over who knew what.
For Joe, the best part was seeing everyone get involved.
Instead of taking part from the audience, he was the one guiding the game, keeping things moving and bringing people together for the afternoon.
And it seems he may have found a new calling.
"I would love to do it again," he said.
Joe's willingness to step outside his comfort zone made for a memorable afternoon filled with laughter, conversation and connection. More importantly, it showed what can happen when someone is given the opportunity to try something new and share their talents with others.
After all, some of the best community moments start with a simple ‘yes’.
