Brightwater welcomes Huntington’s disease residents to new Piara Waters home

Brightwater Care Group has opened its doors to its new Piara Waters house for people living with Huntington’s Disease. In a world-first, this architecturally-designed site is a far cry from the group home and hospital-style environment those living with the disease are familiar with, boasting sensory gardens, commercial kitchens for chef-cooked meals, and the latest technology and equipment.

This new campus, located on Erade Drive, boasts a state-of-the-art design tailored to accommodate 21 residents across seven specialised homes.

Huntington’s disease is a genetic disorder that progressively impairs the brain’s ability to regulate movement, cognition, and emotions. This disease evolves slowly, with symptoms intensifying over time.

Currently, there is no cure for Huntington's disease, and while certain medications and therapies can mitigate some symptoms, comprehensive support remains crucial.

This development marks a significant advancement for the Western Australian community and underscores Brightwater’s dedication to enhancing disability care.
