Supported decision-making is essential to respecting people’s rights in aged and dementia care, helping them stay included and involved in choices about their own lives. With plans to introduce a new Aged Care Act focused on these rights, there’s an urgent need to update policies and provide better training and resources for care staff. The BUDDY project tackles this need by developing training and tools for supported decision-making across the aged care sector.
The BUDDY project will help Brightwater to support people in decision-making. It will develop tools to check how well supporters and staff understand and practice supported decision making. The project will review existing policies and provide detailed training for staff, including workshops.
