Associate Professor Aisling Smyth is the inaugural Brightwater – UWA Fellow and Associate Professor in Aged and Disability Care Research at the Department of Nursing at University of Western Australia. A registered nurse with a passion for advancing the gerontological nursing specialty, Aisling's research focuses on improving quality of life and care outcomes for older adults and people with disability. She is an executive member of the Gerontological Alliance of Nurses Australia (GANA), member of the Australian Association of Gerontology and a sub-committee member of Nursing Subcommittee of Australasian Sleep Association.
Aisling's research spans aged care quality and safety, sleep health in older adults, person-centred dementia care, and digital health solutions in aged care. Her work has focused on developing evidence-based solutions to improve care delivery and health outcomes across aged and disability care settings. She is also passionate about supporting informal carers health and wellbeing.
At Brightwater, Aisling leads translational research programs that bridge academic research and frontline practice, with a focus on building research capacity within the aged and disability care workforce and ensuring evidence directly informs how care is delivered.
