Community workshop brings fresh energy to The Village Shed

The Village Men's Shed hosts inclusive workshop

The Village Men’s Shed has always been a place where people come together to create, connect and share practical skills. And recently, that sense of community expanded even further.

Over the past two weekends, the shed hosted a dedicated women’s workshop so those interested could get hands-on with tools, try new techniques and soak up learning something new. Brightwater's Community Engagement & Events Advisor Adriana was among the participants who got stuck in, joining a group ready to explore skills in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

The workshop was led by shed coordinator, Mark Saggers, whose easy-going style and supportive nature helped everyone feel confident giving things a red hot go. With plenty of encouragement (and a few shared laughs), the group moved through a range of activities designed to build practical skills and bring people together.

For women, taking part in shed activities can be a great way to broaden social connections, boost confidence and discover new interests, all while being part of a community that values inclusion and shared learning. This workshop was a great example of how the shed continues to evolve into a space where everyone feels welcome.

Going by the photos, the smiles were big, the energy was high, and the sawdust was… plentiful.

The Village Men’s Shed might have its roots in tradition, but days like these show that it’s very much a space for the whole community.
