Making music through the web

Posted on Monday, May 4, 2020

For a group of Brightwater at Home clients, there was no way COVID-19 was going to stop them from missing their weekly music session.

The budding musicians all live in Perth’s Northern Suburbs and come together every week to make music.

All of the group are living with a diagnosis of dementia, or other cognitive impairment and whilst they would normally meet in Brightwater’s Currambine office, with the current guidelines for group gatherings and their potential vulnerability, they have taken their meetings online.

The group started in October 2018 as a pilot with just four people and has grown to include 13 regular members. The group has been meeting online since mid-March.

Members of the group have formed strong bonds with one another which have grown over the years they have been making music together.

Brightwater provides aged care and disability support and accommodation services across 22 residential homes, and in clients’ homes, in the Perth metropolitan area.
