Happy belated birthday to Aimee, one of our Birralee residents, who celebrated her 103rd birthday late last year.
Born in Sydney in 1915, she moved to Perth as a toddler with her family, and then on to Dwellingup until she was 18. Aimee joined the Army during WWII and worked in the inspection division over four and a half years, subsequently working as a beauty consultant for Colgate and Palmolive.
Marrying her now husband Irwin in 1948, the happy couple moved to Kalgoorlie where Aimee worked at the local jewellery shop before returning to Perth in 1956 to build a family home in Cottesloe. Irwin and Aimee’s travels did not stop there; they managed a motel in Narrogin, moved to Albany to open another motel, and then ran Crosby Tiles in Safety Bay. Returning to Perth, Irwin and Aimee managed the Harbour Lights Home Units in Fremantle before retiring back to their Cottesloe home.
Aimee’s past interests have included knitting and bowls and she was the President of the Cottesloe Bowling Club for 15 years. Aimee now enjoys chairobics, bingo, cooking, entertainment and visits with her family. Aimee loves the AFL and is an avid West Coast Eagles fan. Her favourite player is Josh Kennedy (who she can spot with ease in any team photo!). Aimee was absolutely delighted with the premiership scarf she received from the Birralee team, and the signed premiership poster she received from the West Coast Eagles.
Her family organised a lovely birthday celebration at Birralee, where they attended along with her closest friends to celebrate her fantastic life so far. Staff members assisting wore Eagles jumpers to celebrate Aimee’s favourite team.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Aimee for being such a lovely addition to the atmosphere at Birralee and wish her a very happy year ahead!
