Welcome to our new Huntington's disease village at Piara Waters.
Brightwater Care Group has a long history of supporting people, and their families, with Huntington's disease and we are building a purpose-built home for the people we care for in the southern suburb of Piara Waters.
This page is designed to provide regular updates and links to resources for our clients, future clients, families, friends and other key stakeholders throughout the development and build of this exciting new project. If you have any questions about the project, please don't hesitate to email [email protected]
About the project
Brightwater Care Group provides support for people living with Huntington’s disease at Kailis House in Belmont for people in early stages of the disease and Ellison House in Carlisle for people in later stages of the disease.
Whilst these supported independent living sites have been wonderful in many ways for the clients and their families who have called them their home, we know there is great interest in advancing the opportunity to create a new home that is purpose-built to support people with Huntington’s disease.
We are currently out to tender on this exciting new project.

Latest Updates
18 July 2022: Last week Brightwater went to tender for the construction of the Huntington’s Disease Campus. The tender period will run for about 5 weeks and will close mid-August, subject to any extensions we may offer the builders. The tender documentation process took much longer that we had planned due to some challenges with Covid-19 and specifying materials that would be available in this challenging construction and procurement market.
In late August we hope to be able to provide an update on next steps.
PAST UPDATES:
14 April 2022: Development Approval granted for our new Huntington’s Disease Village
We are excited to announce that the City of Armadale provided development approval for the project last month.
Settlement on the land took place on the 8th April, so we also now officially own the land!
Design update
Over the last month the project team has refined the external and internal living environment plans.
The homes will feel like they are located within a parkland setting. Seven “environments” unique to each house will be created: Succulent, shade, modern native, bushland, hills, cottage and coastal.
Each environment will be replicated inside each house, where we will use colour to reflect the external environment – ranging from neutral blues, greens, and an array of warm sandy coloured wall finishes. Timber like finishes will compliment the internal colour scheme.
Large openings to the outdoors will be a key feature in each house – with open living areas moving seamlessly to the outside garden and seating areas – with sheltered shading structures using patterns that reflect each environment.
Next steps
We are now working on plans for an official ‘sod turn’ event for our Huntington’s Disease community, likely to be mid-year. We will keep you updated and hope you can join us as we celebrate the next steps in this exciting project.

We are still on track to lodge for formal Development Approval in mid-December, which is expected to take approximately 60-90 days. We are still hoping to settle on the land in March 2022 and the tender for the works and all being well commence construction in mid-2022. We will continue to keep you updated.
